Kevin Hart ended up in a wheelchair after attempting to race a former NFL player

On Wednesday (Aug. 23), Kevin Hart took to Instagram to share that he had injured himself badly enough to require a wheelchair. Referring to himself as “the dumbest man alive,” the comedian revealed that he attempted to race former New England Patriots running back Stevan Ridley, which ended poorly.

“Ladies and gentlemen, turning 40 is no joke,” Hart, who celebrated his birthday in July, began in a self-recorded video. “This is just a public service announcement, as I know some people might see me and I don’t want you to be alarmed. I’m in a wheelchair. Why? Because I tried to do something youthful… and I was told to sit my a** down. Stevan and I got into a little debate over who was faster. Those who know me know I’m pretty quick. Stevan said, ‘Kev, there’s no way you’re going to beat me.’”

He went on, “So we went out to run the 40-yard dash. Guys, I completely broke down. I tore my lower abdomen, and my abductors are torn. I don’t even know what that means, but I tore them… Why did I even race? It was the dumbest thing ever.”

For what it’s worth, Ridley responded warmly to Hart’s unfortunate situation. “I saw Tom Brady do it at your age, so I thought you had the juice too, big bro! My bad… take care and keep making us all laugh!” the former player shared on his Instagram Stories.

Others, including friend and frequent collaborator Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, also recounted their own injury experiences in Hart’s comments. “I tore my abductor off my pelvis during a wrestling match. True story. You’ll be fine. You might grow a third bаll, but you’ll be okay,” the wrestler-turned-actor humorously advised. Meanwhile, Will Smith simply added, “Getting older is REAL!”
