Rick Ross has responded after facing backlash from Drake fans at a Canadian music festival for playing a Kendrick Lamar diss track aimed at the rapper.
Ross, 48, whose real nаme is William Roberts, performed at the Ignite Music Festival in Vancouver on Sunday, concluding his set with Kendrick’s Һit song targeting Drake, “Not Like Us.” This decision sparked anger among several concert-goers, notably Drake fans.
In his first public statement since the incident, Ross took to Instagram to share a post seemingly ignoring the controversy, simply expressing that he had a good time during his trip. “Vancouver it was fun, till next time,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself posing in front of a private jet branded with his nаme.
Despite the chaos that unfolded as Ross left the stage with the contentious song playing, including a cоnfrоntation and scuffle captured on social media, Ross’s subsequent Instagram story on Monday depicted him enjoying champagne and lunch with his entourage, further suggesting minimal impact on his trip.
The tension between Drake, 37, and Ross has simmered for some time, with Drake apparently referencing Ross in his track “Push Ups” earlier this year. Ross responded with his own song “Champagne Moments,” poking at Drake with lyrics about cosmetic surgery.
The ongoing rivalry between Kendrick Lamar, 37, and Drake escalated with Kendrick’s release of “Not Like Us” in May 2024, where serious accusations were made against Drake and his crew, accompanied by controversial visuals on YouTube. Drake countered in May with “The Heart Part 6,” affirming his innocence and addressing the accusations.
While Ross dealt with the aftermath of the festival incident, Drake celebrated Canada Day with posts on Instagram, including videos and photos of festivities, though direct comment from festival organizers, Ross, or Drake’s representatives has not been provided to date.
