Drake dedicated his Artist Of The Decade award to his son Adonis during the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday. The 34-year-old rapper beamed with pride as he took the stage alongside his three-year-old son, whom he shares with Sophie Brussaux. Adonis appeared a bit shy, clinging to his father with a nervous expression in front of the large crowd.
In his speech, Drake expressed gratitude to his ‘beautiful family’ and concluded by picking up a tearful Adonis, stating, “I want to dedicate this to you.” As Drake held him, Adonis, visibly overwhelmed, had tears streaming down his face and seemed eager to leave the stage.
Drake confessed during his speech that he struggles with receiving compliments and is self-conscious about his music. He added, “I rarely celebrate anything,” noting that the key to his success is a persistent sense of uncertainty and the drive to continue until the formula is figured out.
He candidly admitted that he hadn’t prepared an elaborate speech on success because he doesn’t fully understand it himself. “I’ve spent countless hours analyzing my mistakes, but tonight, I’m certain we’ve done something right,” Drake reflected. He also gave a shoutout to his collaborators and competitors, whose work keeps him up at night, strategizing his next move.
At the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, Drake, nominated in seven categories, won the titles of Artist of the Decade and Streaming Songs Artist. On Instagram, he shared a backstage photo of himself with Adonis and a picture of his mother holding the gold trophy.
