Killеr Mike will not be charged with misdemeanor battery following his altercation with an overzealous event security guard at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on February 4. The 49-year-old rapper-activist, born Michael Render, resolved the issue by agreeing to perform community service with a nonprofit organization of his choice and pledging to stay out of trouble for the next year, as reported by TMZ.
Video footage shared by THR’s Chris Gardner showed Killеr Mike, son of an Atlanta police officer, being escorted out of LA’s Crypto.com Arena in handcuffs due to confᴜsion over entry doors for his team.
Ironically, the 6ft 2in hip-hop star had just swept all three rap categories at the Grammy Awards, winning Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Song.
Reflecting on the incident and his recent success, Killеr Mike spoke to GQ, emphasizing how his album’s themes of religious and moral principles resonated with him during the ordeal. He expressed gratitude for personal blessings, including his child receiving a much-awaited kidney transplant shortly after the event.
Killеr Mike, who shares four children with his wife Shana ‘Shay Bigga’ Render from their 18-year marriage, is currently in Canada preparing to perform at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. He is also nominated for Album of the Year at the upcoming BET Awards 2024.
In addition to his music career, Killеr Mike recently filmed a role in Sterlin Harjo’s FX pilot “The Sensitive Kind,” adding to his diverse portfolio since debuting on Outkast’s album “Stankonia” 24 years ago.
