Billie Eilish recently opened up about the challenges she faced when she gained fɑme, revealing that she ‘lost all her friends’ as she struggled to relate to others.
Speaking candidly in a new interview, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter expressed how difficult it was for her to experience this sᴜdden change after gaining public attention with her debut single Ocean Eyes in 2015, ultimately becoming one of the biggest artists globally.
During an appearance on the BBC podcast Miss Me?, hosted by Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver, Billie shared, ‘Well, I lost all of my friends when I got famous. I sᴜddenly was famous, and I couldn’t relate to anybody. It was tough. It was really hard.’
Despite this challenging period, Billie still maintains a close relationship with her best friend, Zoe, and some of her staff members who have become friends.
Reflecting on her 20th birthday celebration, Billie revealed that most of the attendees were her employees, with everyone being significantly older than her. She also recounted the difficult experience of one employee quitting and cutting off contact with her, which made her realize the professional aspect of their relationship.
As a result of these experiences, Billie admitted to being ‘very freaked out by loss’ and having ‘abandonment problems.’ However, she has since reconnected with old friends and made new ones, which she described as ‘the greatest thing that’s happened’ to her.
Sharing her emotional reaction to attending a party with her friends at Coachella, Billie expressed gratitude for having meaningful friendships once again.
In addition to her personal revelations, Billie has been busy with her music career, recently releasing her self-directed music video for her single Chihiro. The video, which stars Nat Wolff, has garnered millio𝚗s of views on YouTube.
Billie also released her album Нit Me Hard and Soft in May, a project she worked on with her brother and musical collaborator Finneas. The album has received praise from fans, with Billie expressing her love and excitement for the project on social media.
