The first day of The Governors Ball kicked off at Citi Field in Queens, New York, on Friday night.
Billie Eilish was the headline act for the 10th anniversary of the music festival, which had been canceled the previous year due to the CоVID-19 pаndemic.
The 19-year-old singer performed several of her well-known songs from her two studio albums, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019) and Happier Than Ever (2021).
Fans enjoyed her high-energy performance, but at one point, Billie paused the music to call out the festival’s security for not ‘paying attention’ to the crowd. While performing “Happier Than Ever,” she asked, “Security, why aren’t you paying attention?” She pointed toward a specific area in the crowd, although it’s unclear what prompted her concern.
“Like, for real,” Billie continued. “One job, please.” She then checked on her fans, asking, “Everybody good? Are you okay?” which was met with cheers from the audience.
Despite the interruption, Eilish seemed in her element for the 10th anniversary of the festival, wearing white/pink tie-dye shorts adorned with quirky characters. True to her usual style, she wore a baggy matching shirt with a striking graphic, complemented by white sneakers and platinum blonde hair styled in pigtails.
Day one of the Governors Ball also featured performances by Rufus Du Sol, Leon Bridges, Portugal. The Man, Kehlani, 24goldn, Future Islands, Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist, Earthgang, and many more.
To attend the 2021 Governors Ball, attendees needed to be fully vaccinated or have a negаtive CоVID-19 test within 72 hours before each day of the event.
Day two on Saturday featured co-headliners A$AP Rocky and J. Balvin, with other acts including Megan Thee Stallion, Phoebe Bridgers, and more. Day three, on Sunday, featured Post Malone as the headliner, alongside artists like 21 Sаvage, Ellie Goulding, and Burna Boy.
Single-day general admission tickets started at $129 plus fees, with VIP options also available, though they were sold out.
